When Police Take Your Things, Whose Job Is It to Give Them Back?

NYC NOW | Nov 2

WNYC and Gothamist reporter Samantha Max joins us to discuss a lawsuit accusing New York City and the NYPD of making it unnecessarily difficult for people to recover belongings taken by police. One plaintiff says officers took bags of Christmas presents for her children and that she never got them back. Another says police left some of his possessions beside a dumpster while other items disappeared. The lawsuit argues the city’s property return process is so confusing that some New Yorkers never recover what belongs to them.
