Project Street Vet provides free veterinary care to homeless New Yorkers

WNYC News | 2 hours ago

Many pet owners see their animal companions like their children... and like child care, the cost of raising pets keeps rising. Pet necessities and veterinary care can be a financial burden on anyone, but it weighs especially hard on homeless people caring for animals.

Project Street Vet works in New York—and across the country—to help alleviate that struggle. They host regular street clinics where volunteers provide free vet care, treatment and support to the pets of those experiencing homelessness. Valerie Baker helps lead those clinics in the city and joins WNYC's Tiffany Hanssen to discuss their impact.
