Mayor Mamdani's culture commissioner wants to make art more accessible

New York City is one of the world’s cultural capitals, but with rent and cost of living increasing, arts and culture can remain out of reach for many New Yorkers.

Diya Vij is the commissioner of the city's Department of Cultural Affairs. She was appointed to the position in February by Mayor Mamdani. Commissioner Vij sat down for a conversation with WNYC's Sean Carlson to talk more about what she wants to achieve in her tenure.
