Orli Shaham: In Clara's Hands at Kaufman Music Center Merkin Hall
Oct. 6, 7:30PM. $34.

Robert Schumann is one of classical music’s canonical composers, and his Piano Quintet is a masterpiece. So when pianist Orli Shaham joins the Juilliard Quartet on Oct. 6 to play that piece, no one will be surprised. But they might be surprised by the rest of the program, which focuses on the music of Clara Schumann. Before she married Robert, Clara was one of the great pianists of her day, who set new standards for virtuosity and the modern piano recital while building her husband’s reputation, raising eight children and composing significant works of her own. Orli Shaham performs some of Clara's underappreciated works, including the Three Romances for Violin and Piano, at Kaufman Music Center's Merkin Hall on Oct.6.
