The band Chairlift sprung out of Boulder, Colorado in 2005. Back then, the duo of Aaron Pfenning and Caroline Polachek had visions of crafting creepy soundscapes for haunted houses. These days, along with Patrick Wimberly, they're an electronic pop trio in Brooklyn armed with hypnotic, synth sounds and a wink-and-nod approach to songwriting. One of the breakout albums of year in 2008, the group released its debut album, Does You Inspire You, and landed the single "Bruises" on this I-pod commercial. They caught even more ears around Brooklyn while sharing bills and reviews with the likes of MGMT, Yeasayer, Bat For Lashes and Mixel Pixel. Chairlift pays it back to the kids of Williamsburg tonight during a free show at the Knitting Factory. Click here to RSVP; only the first 275 folks who do will gain entry. Download the track “Planet Health” or watch this video for “Evident Utensil.” Both staple tracks are from the band's aforementioned 2008 release.
