Does music reduce pain? Should your oncologist try writing a little fiction? The arts are changing the health care industry and play increasing roles in what we experience when we go to the hospital. We’ll meet the director of a burn unit in Ohio who’s gathering data on the anesthetic qualities of music; and an obstetrician who believes that reading literature helps doctors treat patients. And we’ll reveal which doctor TV show is the most accurate. (Differential diagnosis: it’s not “House.”)

Virtual reality pioneer — and musician — Jaron Lanier tells Kurt that companies like Google and Facebook are building “castles of secrecy” with information that we freely share about ourselves.
