Ex-State Senator Espada and Son Get Fall Trial Date

Ex-state Senator Pedro Espada Jr., from the Bronx, and his son Pedro G. Espada appeared in Brooklyn federal court Friday on charges of embezzling more than $500,000 from their federally funded Bronx health clinic.

As Attorney General, now-Governor Andrew Cuomo accused Espada of using the clinic, Soundview, to enrich himself and his family.

Both men have pleaded not guilty.

The Brooklyn judge has scheduled jury selection for September 12.

Prosecutors still plan to charge the father and son with tax evasion by the end of the month.

Espada is the founder and CEO of Soundview and continues to represent himself in the media as the head of the clinic.
