Robert O'Meally is the Zora Neale Hurston Professor of American Literature at Columbia University, where he is also the Director of the Center for Jazz Studies, dedicated to exploring the influence of jazz on American life. He is the author of Lady Day: The Many Faces of Billie Holiday and Living With Music: Ralph Ellison's Jazz Writings.
