#3281: New Sounds Live at WFC, Mostly

New Sounds | Dec 15, 2011

Sample some of the new works premiered at our New Sounds Live concert series featuring the Brooklyn Phil and their new music director, Alan Pierson, along with the final concert of the American Composers Orchestra’s SONiC Festival for this program.  We’ll hear the premiere of Bryce Dessner’s "St. Carolyn by the Sea," written for the American Composers Orchestra and two electric guitar soloists (Bryce & his brother, Aaron), from the World Financial Center in October 2011.

Based on American novelist and Beat poet Jack Kerouac's "Big Sur," much of the work is in 5/4 – an “odd” time signature, which Bryce likes not only because it’s asymmetrical but because he’s “not allowed to write in 5/4 in the National, so he has to get it out of his system here.”  We’ll also hear an ambient work from Suzanne Farin, the New York City premiere of “Infinite Here,” as well as a work by drummer/composer David T. Little, performed by Alan Pierson’s other band, Alarm Will Sound.  That and much more.
