Julia Irmen is married with a baby. She works as a police officer in Germany. Three weeks after giving birth to her son, she won the German National Championships. She says she’s had broken legs, broken arms, but nothing was more painful than childbirth; “after that,” Irmen says, “I felt I can do anything.”

The AIBA, the International Boxing Association, recommended last year that female boxers wear skirts during Olympic competition. The reaction from boxers, including Irmen, was fierce. Listen to her response above.
