There's music that blends groove-based jazz, post-rock, and minimalism on this New Sounds show in work by Oregon-based quintet Blue Cranes, by Manchester-based trio GoGo Penguin, and from the reinvented quartet, The Bad Plus.
Oregon-based quintet Blue Cranes embraces jazz and groove, and flirts with twelve-tone rows and minimalism on their latest, My Only Secret. The band - keyboards, bass, drums, and two saxophone players - is sometimes augmented by flute, trombone, and clarinet, and aims to expand on core memories and emotions in their constant evolution as players and composers.
