The 2016 Tony Nominations were just announced today, and we have been very lucky to have many of the nominees on our show to discuss their productions. Listen below for our in depth discussions with directors, producers, and actors behind some of this year's best theater

Hamilton

“Hamilton” director Thomas Kail, along with stars Daveed Diggs (Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson) and Leslie Odom, Jr. (Aaron Burr) talk about the hit Broadway musical which has garnered a record-breaking 16 Tony nominations. 

Long Day's Journey Into Night

Jessica LangeGabriel Byrne and Michael Shannon talk about the Roundabout Theatre Company Production of Eugene O’Neill’s “Long Day’s Journey Into Night.”

Spring Awakening

We discuss the new production of "Spring Awakening" with director Michael Arden, co-stars Marlee Matlin and Camryn Manheim, and interpreter Jack Jason. The musical is performed in the Deaf West style, simultaneously in American Sign Language and spoken English by a cast of 27.  

The Color Purple

Blackbird

Actors Jeff Daniels and Michelle Williams discuss the Broadway revival of Blackbird.” Williams stars as Una, a young woman who confronts Ray (Daniels), 15 years after he sexually abused her when she was 12-years-old. During their conversation in his office breakroom, Una attempts to come to terms with everything that happened, and unleashes her rage on Ray.

A View From the Bridge

Actors Mark StrongPhoebe Fox, and Nicola Walker discuss their new production of Arthur Miller's "A View from the Bridge." The play is being produced on Broadway during the author's centenary and marks the Broadway debut of internationally acclaimed director Ivo van Hove.

The Crucible

Saoirse RonanBill Camp and Sophie Okonedo star as Abigail Williams, Reverend John Hale and Elizabeth Proctor in a new production of Arthur Miller's, "The Crucible" on Broadway. 

The Humans

Deep-seated emotions, anxieties and tensions are laid bare when a middle-class American family gathers together in their Manhattan apartment for Thanksgiving dinner in a new Broadway play, "The Humans." Actors Reed Birney and Jayne Houdyshell join playwrightStephen Karam to talk about the show, which recently finished a critically-acclaimed run off-Broadway.

Shuffle Along

Dancer and choreographer Savion Glover and Judith Jamison, Artistic Director Emerita ofAlvin Ailey American Dance Theater, talk about upcoming performances and about race, dance and the connection to African American communities. Jamison will be honored on May 16th with the Fred & Adele Astaire Award, which recognizes outstanding achievements in dance, film and on Broadway. Glover choreographed the new Broadway musical "Shuffle Along," which was just nominated for 10 Tony Awards, including one for Best Choreography.  

Adrienne Warren and Brandon Victor Dixon, along with director and author George C. Wolfe talk about the hit Broadway musical “Shuffle Along,” which was nominated for 10 Tony Awards. 

School of Rock

WQXR’s first instrument drive in 2014 was an enormous success and collected over 3,000 musical instruments for more than 100 public schools throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Actor Alex Brightman, who's starring in "School of Rock - The Musical" on Broadway, joins Graham Parker, General Manager of WQXR, to discuss WQXR’s 2nd Instrument Drive 

King Charles III

Tim Pigott-SmithOliver Chris, and Lydia Wilson talk about their starring roles in the Broadway production of “King Charles III.” This future-history play imagines a time when the Queen of England is dead and Prince Charles ascends the throne as William, Kate, and Harry look on.
