Trial Date Set for Former Liu Campaign Official
A former campaign treasurer for New York City Comptroller John Liu will get her day in court, almost a year after she was arrested.
Judge Richard Sullivan set a Feb. 4 trial date for Jia “Jenny” Hou on Tuesday in federal court in Manhattan.
Hou pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy, wire fraud, obstruction of justice and making false statements.
She was arrested in February and is free on bail. If convicted, she could face up to 65 years in prison.
Attorney Gerald Lefcourt says she has committed no crimes.
The government says straw donors were used to funnel large, illegal contributions to Liu's campaign. The criminal complaint laid out first-hand observations by an undercover FBI agent posing as a businessman looking to support Liu.
Hou, 25, worked for the Friends of John Liu, as well as the Office of the Comptroller.
