Schedule Changes on WNYC

WNYC News | Aug 20, 2012

On September 15, you’ll notice changes to the WNYC FM and AM schedules on the weekends and weeknights.

On Saturdays on 93.9FM, Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me will now be followed by  Radiolab, This American Life, The Moth and a new quiz show, Ask Me Another, filling your afternoon with riveting stories, belly laughs, and lightbulb moments.

With these changes, Jonathan Schwartz takes his afternoon show to the evenings to become the soundtrack of Saturday nights following A Prairie Home Companion.  There will be no better complement to your Saturday night than Jonathan and his unique spin of the American songbook! And you’ll still be able to hear Jonathan every Sunday afternoon from 12-4.

Some other changes to the weekend schedule include an additional hour of Weekend Edition Saturday on AM820 until 11am; a move for Selected Shorts from Saturday to Sunday night at 10 on 93.9FM; The Splendid Table on Sunday mornings on 93.9FM; and a new show, Snap Judgment brings storytelling with a beat to the Sunday night line-up on AM820.

And if you haven’t yet heard Slate’s Gabfest Radio, check it out Saturday mornings at 7 and Sunday evenings at 6 on AM820.  Slate has taken two of their most popular podcasts, The Political Gabfest and The Cultural Gabfest and combined them into one-hour of great “gab” exclusively for WNYC. The evening airplay will be followed by Smiley & West in a new 7pm timeslot, with more signature “gab” on current affairs and politics from Tavis Smiley and Dr. Cornel West.

On weeknights - we’re excited to announce the return of Soundcheck to the radio after a summer workshop of reinvention to create a new sound and sensibility for the program and expand their digital offerings. Check out their new website at Soundcheck.org, or listen to them in their new timeslot, 9pm on 93.9FM.  Soundcheck will be the center of our new weeknight schedule which includes a variety of favorite shows with Studio 360 leading off on Mondays, followed by This American Life, The Moth, Radiolab, and On The Media at 8pm on 93.9FM.  Q with Jian Ghomeshi, will remain part of our evening line-up at 10pm after a successful summer run.

On Point with Tom Ashbrook will continue to follow All Things Considered now on AM820 followed by Fresh Air, The Diane Rehm Show and the PBS Newshour.
