Delta Rae: Big Voices Tackling Big Issues

Delta Rae is largely a family affair -- the six person group includes three siblings: Ian, Brittany and Eric Hölljes. The North Carolina band stopped by the studio to perform songs from their debut album, Carry The Fire.

In addition to focusing on their album release this year, the group has also devoted their energies toward a family-related cause: the legalization of gay marriage.

Growing up in Marietta, Ga., the siblings witnessed the controversy that their mother, a gay rights advocate, caused in their community. "We would get death threats left on the windshield of the car," Ian told Soundcheck host John Schaefer. "It left such an impression on me. There's a real movement towards inclusion and tolerance and acceptance, but there's still incredible malice out there." 

Before Delta Rae's current home state of North Carolina voted on a ballot initiative to ban gay marriage earlier this year, the group released a song called "Chain On Love," which you can watch below.
