Zach Brock: Jazz Violin In The Studio

Jazz violin will be forever associated with the late great player Stephane Grappelli, who made his name alongside guitarist Django Reinhardt. But it wasn’t just Grappelli’s influence that drew young violinist Zach Brock toward jazz. Instead, it was a mohawk -- sported by saxophonist Sonny Rollins -- that really swayed him in that direction.

Brock is now making quite a name for himself in the jazz world, playing alongside players like bassist Stanley Clarke and sax player Chris Potter – and leading a few of his own ensembles. He joins us with his quartet -- which includes pianist Aaron Goldberg, bassist Matt Penman and drummer Eric Harland -- to play in the Soundcheck studio.
