2013 Oscar Nominations: From Best Song To Most Snubbed

Soundcheck | Jan 11, 2013

Early Thursday morning the nominees for the 2013 Academy Awards were announced in a televised ceremony hosted by actor and director Seth McFarlane and actress Emma Stone.  Slate film critic Dana Stevens joins us to talk about some of the music-related nominees for this year's awards, including the categories for Best Song and Score -- and the blockbuster Les Miserables, which is nominated in four categories including Best Picture, and also has the #1 album on the Billboard Charts this week.

Plus, we hear about some of the artists left out this year, notably including Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood, whose acclaimed score for the Paul Thomas Anderson film The Master didn't make the cut.

The nominees for Best Song included:

J. Ralph’s “Before My Time” from Chasing Ice, performed by Scarlett Johansson and Joshua Bell; “Everybody Needs A Best Friend” from Seth McFarlane’s Ted, performed by Norah Jones; “Pi’s Lullaby” from Life of Pi, by Mychael Danna and Bombay Jayashri; “Skyfall” from Adele with Paul Epworth; and an original song from Les Miserables called "Suddenly," performed by Hugh Jackman.

Which one do you think will get the Oscar?
