John Denver’s Legacy; Academy Award-Winning Songwriter Ryan Bingham

Soundcheck | Apr 5, 2013

In This Episode: Ryan Bingham won an Oscar, a Grammy and a Golden Globe for “The Weary Kind,” a song he wrote with T-Bone Burnett for the 2009 film Crazy Heart (starring Jeff Bridges as a country music burnout). Bingham returns to our studio to play songs from his latest album, Tomorrowland.

Plus: Best known for easy listening hits of the 1970s like “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and “Rocky Mountain High,” the late John Denver is the subject of a new tribute CD called The Music Is You. On it, a new generation of artists pay him tribute, including Jim James of My Morning Jacket and Sharon Van Etten.

And: a Pick Three from WQXR host Jeff Spurgeon.
