Thompson Releases 2010 and 2011 Tax Info

Mayoral candidate Bill Thompson released new tax information late Friday afternoon, but the Democrat isn't releasing his full returns publicly.

Just after 4 p.m. on Friday, the Thompson campaign sent out an email stating his total income from 2010 and 2011. The timing is significant, as candidates tend to release information they hope to bury on August Fridays.

Thompson's total income from those years topped $700,000 That's a big jump from a year earlier, when he earned less than 200-thousand dollars. The bump reflects Thompson's income after he was hired by an investment bank.

WNYC had repeatedly requested the information to see what Thompson earned as a paid advisor to Kurron Capital. That's a sister company to a firm connected to the mismanagement of Interfaith Hospital in Brooklyn, which is facing imminent closure. Thompson's work for Kurron was first disclosed by WNYC last week.

According to the forms, Thompson earned a total of $30,000 dollars in 2010 and 2011 from Kurron.

The campaign is making the returns available for reporters to review at their headquarters, but not for distribution, because of what the campaign said are security concerns.

Other mayoral campaigns have released tax returns for those years.  In 2012, after much delay, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney released his tax returns, making the full 379 pages available to the public and the press.
