#3673: The Human Element

New Sounds | Jun 3, 2017

Hear musical collaborations between two people and between "human" and "machine" sounds for this program.  There's music from the composer/sound artist Tristan Perich in collaboration with Bang on a Can pianist Vicky Chow, - "Surface Image," a stunning "21st piano concerto for piano and 1-bit electronics. The work is packet-based, whether by the virtue of the electronics - 40 hand-made speakers each tuned to a different note, or the clusters of piano note patterns.  The overall whole is an intense work of carefully constructed mathematical beauty and one of striking endurance for the pianist, which teeters on the edge of soundscape or sound installation. There's also " s_traits," a collaboration between composer John Supko and media artist Bill Seaman,  for taped sounds and improvising software. And more.
