Musical Polyglots

Soundcheck | May 3, 2010
On this edition of Soundcheck we welcome a true New York original, singer and composer Nora York. Her unique style of music fuses together influences from many different genres, from Charles Mingus to The Beatles to Henry Purcell. She and her band give a live performance in the WNYC studio and sit down for a conversation about what's next for this innovative artist. Also, a truly iconoclastic writer, John Rockwell, returns to the studio to talk about another maverick of the music world, Russian conductor Valery Gergiev.
