Up and Comers

Soundcheck | May 3, 2010
Today on Soundcheck, guest host Arun Rath takes a look at musicians you might not know now but you will know very soon. First, our weekly concert pick will focus on singer/songwriter Tift Merritt, whose debut album, Bramble Rose, immediately gained critical acclaim and has helped to turn this native North Carolinian into a force on the folk music scene. Also, a live performance from four twenty-something chamber musicians from Julliard who will made a big splash this weekend in the East River when they perform at Bargemusic. Plus, Arun speaks with trumpeters Dave Douglas and Roy Campbell Jr. These two leaders of the downtown jazz scene are curating a series at Tonic of new trumpet music played by master veterans and young lions.
