Child’s Play

Soundcheck | May 3, 2010
WNYC and the Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC) are joining forces this year to create the WNYC Young People’s Radio Chorus, the first-ever radio chorus at a major New York radio station. If you’ve never given much serious thought to children’s choral music, you might be surprised by this edition of Soundcheck when the chorus makes its official debut. Host John Schaefer speaks with chorus artistic director Francisco Núñez and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner, who has collaborated with the ensemble. We’re also joined by Anthony Tommasini, chief classical music critic of the New York Times, who weighs in on some of the big news events affecting the classical music world, including the opening of Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles.
