Guitar Picking and Orchestral Maneuvers

Soundcheck | May 3, 2010
Jason Vieaux, a young blood on the classical guitar scene, joins us in advance of his New York recital debut with a performance and discussion. At age 30, he’s garnered a series of impressive awards, a pair of CDs for Naxos, and has a busy schedule of engagements around the country. Also: whither the symphonic world? Nearly a dozen orchestras across the country have either closed or are in danger of doing so over the past year. But how bad are things and what’s needed to be done? We’re joined by Henry Fogel, former president of the Chicago Symphony and current head of the American Symphony Orchestra League in New York. He offers his overview of the modern-day orchestral landscape.
