#3820: Orbiting Daniel Wohl’s 'Holographic'
Listen to music by French-born Brooklyn-based composer Daniel Wohl, from his latest release, “Holographic,” for this New Sounds. Hear both parts of Wohl’s “Replicate,” featuring the Iktus Percussion Ensemble and electronics. The work is a foreground soundscape combining playful percussive textures which draw from a well-stocked arsenal both scraped or struck acoustic instruments and sculpted electronics. Also, hear Wohl’s “Source,” a charming piece of electroacoustic disorientation featuring vocalist and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw (Roomful of Teeth) and Russian-Alaskan-Brooklynite vocalist/keyboardist/producer Olga Bell (Dirty Projectors.)
Then, listen to works by both vocalists: there's arty prog with at least six layers of Olga Bell’s voice and one movement of Caroline Shaw’s “Partita for 8 voices,” performed by Roomful of Teeth. Plus, there’s music by Dublin-based band Alarmist, whose jazz-infused math rock features two drummers.
