Legendary hip hop artists such as Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Herc, and Grandmaster Flash are contributing turntables, boom boxes and other items for a forthcoming hip hop exhibit at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. Today, Danyel Smith, novelist, critic and former editor-in-chief of Vibe magazine joins us with her analysis. Also: The Whitney Biennial opens today and once again, it offers a chance to find out what that cutting-edge of the art world is up to. Finally, New York's eccentric Jewish Folk Music renegades the Klezmatics stop by in advance of their "20 Years Live!" Concert at Town Hall this Sunday. They will be recording the show for an upcoming documentary and tv broadcast that are being filmed simultaneously.
