#4002: Music For Accordions
Hear music for accordion, and members of the accordion family – and their wide variety of sounds and styles from North America and Europe.
Listen to two accordion experimentalists (diatonic accordion), the Frenchmen Christian Maes and Janick Martin, along with percussionist Etienne Gruel push as far north as Celtic shores and as far south as the deserts of North Africa from their record, Feule caracal (Buda Musique.) There’s also music from trikitixa (a diatonic accordion) virtuoso and composer Kepa Junkera, of the Basque region. From a record called Maletak,where he is joined by the vocalists/percussionists of the all-female ensemble Sorginak, hear a tune called, “Sandinderi.”
Experience a combination of tango, chamber, and improvisation, in some acoustic world-jazz from Belgium by the Diab Quintet, led by Jonathan De Neck and his diatonic accordion. Also, listen to the Boston-based accordion-driven Balkan-tango world-folk-jazz of Grand Fatilla.
Hear music from Poland by the late composer Wojciech Kilar, in an arrangement for accordions by the Motion Trio. There’s music somewhere on the spectrum of classical, jazz, noise, and experimental folk by Belarusian instrumental trio Port Mone, recorded in a forest, to “appeal to the natural , pure, & primordial in human soul.” Plus, music by the late composer, accordionist, and experimental electronic art music pioneer Pauline Oliveros, and her work for extended accordion frames the show.
