#4087: Music for Harp
Hear music for harp, including works for Celtic harp from Brittany by way of India and Kashmir, work for the electric harp by the Portuguese group, Powertrio, and music from Alan Stivell, who revived Celtic harp and Breton folk music back in the 1970s. Also, listen to a bardic epic from harpist and songwriter Joanna Newsom.
From Portugal, hear a chamber-rock group Powertrio, who combine guitar, piano insides and percussion and harp. Classically-trained harpist Eduard Raon, along with his collaborators, Joana Sa (piano), and Luis Jose Martins (guitar and percussion), explore experimental, electronic, and noise music with abandon and gusto on the work, “A flor do mal.”
Listen to Elfic Circle from Brittany, led by harp player composer Andrea Seki, who also studied in India and Kashmir, along with French Brittany and was directly inspired by Alan Stivell. There’s also music from Stivell’s record, Zoom, and a song called “Ys” for Celtic harp. Hear a story told in song accompanied by harp from Joanna Newsom, from her record, Ys –inspired by the Breton legend of Ys, the sunken city that rises from the sea once a year.
