#4188: David Bowie Week, Part 1 - Berlin Trilogy Inspirations
A sense of discovery is inherent in Bowie’s music from the Berlin Trilogy – threads of minimalism, rock, ambient music – which is what makes it a perfect fit for New Sounds. In October of 2018, at Brookfield Place, an all-star cast of musicians led by Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiberg arranged the three records, Low, “Heroes”, and Lodger, and performed them in their entirety. Additionally, hear works that inspired the Berlin Trilogy from Brian Eno and Klaus Schulze, as played by Wordless Music Orchestra. In this week which marks the anniversary of Bowie’s birth and death, listen to all of this music, over five nights of programs, recorded live at Brookfield Place.
This episode, part 1 of 5, features music that inspired Bowie’s Berlin Trilogy by Brian Eno. Eno was the producer who, with Tony Visconti, worked with Bowie in the studio on the three records of the Berlin Trilogy. Hear the genre-blind, flexible New York-based Wordless Music Orchestra performing arrangements of music from Brian Eno’s trailblazing record, Another Green World. Also, hear an arrangement of Eno’s “Discreet Music.”
