#4212: It's About Time

New Sounds | Jan 24, 2020

Hear pieces about time and works that deal with the passage of time from cellist Julia Kent, composer Poppy Ackroyd, and by multi-instrumentalist David Garland.

Hear music by cellist, producer, and composer Julia Kent from her 2019 record, Temporal- having to do with time, in both the title of album and the way that her piece, “Last Hour Story”, unfolds. Then, listen to music by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist David Garland that goes for a timeless quality. From his 2018 opus, Verdancy, hear “Lux Temporalis” which is built around a drone and a 12-string adapted guitar, modified by Kenji Garland.

Listen to a medieval offertorium from the early music vocal group Orlando Consort in collaboration with jazz rock band Perfect Houseplants, from their record called “Extempore” – literally “out of time.” There’s music by English pianist, violinist, producer, and composer Poppy Ackroyd, simply called “Time” from her record, Resolve. Plus, music by Steve Hauschildt, and more. -Caryn Havlik
