#4279: Trumpet-based New Music
Hear the latest work by composer and inventor of the mutantrumpet, Ben Neill, along with new trumpet-based music from Laura Jurd/Dinosaur, Yazz Ahmed, and the band Sex Mob.
From Ben Neill, listen to portions of his latest, Fantini Futuro for mutantrumpet, (his self-designed electro-acoustic instrument), countertenor, Baroque keyboards, and interactive video projections. The new audio-visual performance work is based on the music and life of early Baroque trumpeter/composer Girolamo Fantini, who brought the trumpet indoors from the hunt and the battlefield to the realm of art music.
NOTE: The premiere of Fantini Futuro is this Thursday, Sept. 26 at Roulette in Brooklyn, NY, and will also be the debut performance of Neill’s self-designed mutantrumpet version 4.0.
Also, hear Rhys Chatham’s “Waterloo No. 2,” combining martial snare drum playing with minimalist trumpet/trombone fanfares. Then, there’s Romanian brass band Fanfare Ciocarlia’s unexpected and zany arrangement of “Born To Be Wild.” Plus, listen to trumpet works by Bahraini-British trumpet and flugelhorn-player, Yazz Ahmed, along with music by trumpeter & composer Laura Jurd and her Mercury Prize-nominated band, Dinosaur. The band Sex Mob’s tribute to Martin Denny, the “Father of Exotica,” rounds out the show. -Caryn Havlik
