#4287: From New Sounds Live at Brookfield Place
Listen to music from the New Sounds Live concert series, all recorded at Brookfield Place over the years. Hear music by Pulitzer Prize winning composer, violinist and vocalist Caroline Shaw, guitarist Vernon Reid, and composer, keyboardist and bandleader, Missy Mazzoli.
Hear some of "Artificial Afrika," a multimedia work created by electric guitarist and composer Vernon Reid and commissioned by WNYC. Then, listen to music that won the Pulitzer Prize- “Partita for 8 Voices” by violinist and vocalist Caroline Shaw as performed by the vocal octet Roomful of Teeth. Then, listen to a brass-heavy elegy to the coal mining culture in Northeast England, “The Miners’ Hymns,” a film score from the late Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, as recorded at Brookfield Place.
There’s music by composer Missy Mazzoli, who performs music with her electroacoustic band Victoire, in a live remix. Also, hear some of Jason Swinscoe’s score for the landmark silent film “Man With a Movie Camera,” featuring the Cinematic Orchestra, recorded at the Winter Garden. Listen to some of “Requiem for Fossil Fuels,” a site-specific memorial mass, by Bruce Odland and Sam Auinger, which combines human voices and the highly-processed sounds of fossil fuels being used. And more – all recorded at Brookfield Place, the former World Financial Center.
