It's the most wonderful time of the month! Here's new music for May 2020, with works from Manchester trio GoGo Penguin, Dublin-based Australian flute player Lina Andonovska, eclectic chamber band Endangered Quartet, and more.
Listen to a work called “Kora” from the UK outfit GoGo Penguin with their piano trio plus electronics. It’s from their third full-length coming out in early June. Then, hear music from Swedish artist Sebastian Mullaert (Minilogue), in collaboration with musicians of the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, from a Zen-like record, Natthall, due in September.
There’s new music by electronic song composer Jacob Cooper for vocalists Theo Bleckmann and Jodie Landau (of Wild Up), along with cellist Ashley Bathgate (formerly of Bang on a Can All-Stars.) Also, hear Berlin-based singer Sophie Tassignon who layers her own voice and electronics into “polyphonic architectures or lush choruses, powerful ensembles or enigmatic atmospheres.” (Bandcamp)
Listen to Dublin-based Australian flute player Lina Andonovska together with percussionist Matthew Jacobson, playing a work by Irish composer Donnacha Dennehy. Plus, hear a J.S. Bach chorale arranged for an eclectic chamber band called Endangered Quartet, whose members include Jazz Passengers co-founders Roy Nathanson and Curtis Fowlkes, the bassist/vocalist Tim Kiah, and Grammy-nominated violinist Jesse Mills. - Caryn Havlik
