Listen to inventive music by guitar hero Yasmin Williams written in reaction to the social injustices and outrage from the time of late May 2020-present. As she wrote on her post containing a performance of this song, “I just hope things can get better and real change can happen.” Then, hear 'Respair' by Tiny Leaves, aka composer and multi-instrumentalist Joel Pike. His title means fresh hope and a recovery from despair. Also, hear a reflective and lyrical tune, “Hope Machine” from pianist/composer Neil Cowley and his Trio.
There’s music from the Louisville, KY vocal trio called Sandpaper Dolls and their setting of an Emily Dickinson poem, Hope is a Thing With Feathers. The text comes from Patricia Bell-Scott’s The Firebrand and the First Lady, drawing from letters between civil rights activist Pauli Murray and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.
