Tunes for Bassoon

Mozart wrote his Bassoon Concerto in B-flat when he was still a teenager, but he treated the instrument with great sophistication and skill, nonetheless. Enjoy this evening's performance by Frank Morelli, soloing with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. When the young John Williams made his debut, Andres Segovia commented, "A prince of the guitar has arrived in the musical world." The prince performs Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Guitar Concerto No. 1 with royal aplomb, backed by Sir Charles Groves and the English Chamber Orchestra. We also hear Bach's magnificent Mass in C, performed by the Chorus and Orchestra of the Collegium Vocale Ghent under the baton of Philippe Herreweghe. Maestro Herreweghe leads the same forces at Lincoln Center, March 5 and 7.
