Magical Music by Philip Glass
Evening Music | May 6, 2010
“Koyaanisquatsi,” a mystical and revolutionary Godfry Reggio film with magical music by Philip Glass, perfectly captures the meaning of the Hopi word“life out of balance.”
While you can hear Michael Riesman conducting the Glass Ensemble in the music this evening during our third hour, you can both hear and see it at Lincoln Center, as the Festival of Film and the Moving Image presents the completed Qatsi Trilogy over three nights, June 2 thru 4, at Lincoln Center. Don’t miss it! And don’t miss our own John Schaefer, as he moderates a discussion between collaborators Philip Glass and Godfry Reggio on Friday, June 3rd.
More not-to-be-missed music (during hour two) is the Samuel Barber Cello Concerto, with Steven Isserlis soloing as Leonard Slatkin conducts the St. Louis Symphony. The New York Philharmonic will offer this work during the week of June 2 through 7, with their principal Carter Brey doing the honors under Alan Gilbert.
