A Potpourri of Music

Evening Music | May 6, 2010
As always, we offer a potpourri of music, works by composers from Henry Purcell to Arto Jarvela, genres from piano solos to chamber ensembles, to vocal, to orchestral. Something for everyone!

Beethoven’s three opus 59 “Rasumovsky” quartets were commissioned by and dedicated to the Russian Count Rasumovsky, whose request is responsible for the Russian theme we hear in the finale of the first of these quartets, otherwise known as String Quartet No. 7 in F. The Guarneri Quartet brings us an exquisite, passionate, deeply expressive performance of this work, the centerpiece of our evening.
