Star Shower

Evening Music | May 6, 2010
Estonian composer Urmas Sisask called his flute concerto “Leonides,” referring to the meteor current from the Leo constellation. You can hear the star shower in the music.

Sisask says his main source of inspiration when composing is the mathematics of the starry sky and the magical forces of space. The flutist in this performance is fellow Estonian Maarika Jarvi, whose brother Kristjan conducts the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. Kristyan is our Spotlight guest this evening, by the way.

Guitarist Pepe Romero can be heard in recital at the 92 Street Y on Saturday, December 3rd, but why wait? Listen to him here as he performs Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Guitar Concerto No. 1 in D, Sir Neville Marriner conducting the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.
