WNYC Must Have Festival

Evening Music | May 6, 2010
You know the feeling. You’re browsing through music store stacks, but have no idea where to start. There are too many choices. What to do...?

Beethoven symphonies seem cool, but there are so many versions. Yikes! Some hotshot tenor recently made a big splash at the opera, but you can’t remember his name. You’re not sure which recordings from the past are the finest, or what new releases are essential.

From November 28–December 4, WNYC has the answer to your prayers. Welcome to the Must Have Festival, a weeklong, on-air music festival designed to help you create the classical music library of your dreams. In addition to tips from our music hosts, you’ll hear from WNYC’s Jad Abumrad, Kurt Andersen, Amy Eddings, Sara Fishko, Soterios Johnson, Brian Lehrer, and Leonard Lopate. The week will also feature personalities from the world of music, including Wu Han, Rob Kapilow, Peter Schickele, and John Zorn. Special guests will sit in with Evening Music hosts Margaret Juntwait and David Garland to discuss and play their essential picks.

From now through the end of the festival, WNYC listeners can submit their own must-have choices through e-mail (music@wnyc.org), share reasons for their selections, and be a part of the festival’s overnight programming. Tune in for a personal week of indispensable music you should know, enjoy, and own.
