Cozy Up to the Fire

Evening Music | May 6, 2010
Grab a mug of hot cocoa and cozy up to the fire as we listen to some Winter-themed music this evening.

Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes sets the tone with his countryman Geirr Tveitt's "The Long, Long Winter Night" (and you can bet they know all about Winter in Norway!). A bit later, Kurt Masur and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig continue the thread with Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 1 in G Minor, subtitled "Winter Dreams."

And speaking of dreams, we'll also enjoy Darius Milhaud's colorful "The Dreams of Jacob" brought to us by the South German Chamber Soloists and featuring virtuoso oboist Lajos Lenczes. Then, in our final hour, David Theodore picks up the oboe mantle as he performs probably the most popular work for that instrument, Mozart's Oboe Concerto in C, joined by the City of London Sinfonia under Richard Hickox.
