Violin Concerto in D

Bolcom wrote this piece for his friend, violinist Sergiu Luca, who performs it tonight with the American Composers Orchestra under Dennis Russell Davies. Though it has a classical-sounding title, the concerto incorporates blues, ragtime, and other popular music—ending in a brilliant show of jazzy virtuosity.
