With its hints of jazz and Indian raga, "G-Song" started out as a duo for soprano saxophone and electronic organ, as part of the soundtrack for the French film Le Secret de la Vie. After expanding it into a string quartet, Riley wrote a mandolin version in 1980 for the Modern Mandolin Quartet, who perform it tonight.
