Haubrich describes his process: "The idea of 'AfriSax' was conceived when discussing repertoire for 'Saxophony,' a trio of two saxophones and synthesizer that Doug and two other colleagues formed in '95. I mentioned my work with African music for film, and we devised a way to do a melodic sax showcase in an African setting. The result was 'AfriSax Suite,' which received its premiere performance in Cape Town in October 2005."
