Hear music by Dutch avant-pop composer Jacob TV – real name Jacob ter Velduis for Philadelphia’s PRISM Quartet. Listen to music by Sun Ra, as arranged for sax quartet by the Boston-based group, Your Neighborhood String Quartet.
There’s music by New Zealand-born, Brooklyn-based composer Gemma Peacocke who is a co-founder of the Kinds of Kings composer collective which focuses on amplifying and advocating for under-heard voices and producing immersive and wondrous music. Listen to her 2018 work, “Dwalm”, (an old Scottish word meaning both a stupor or daydream and to faint or fall ill), and where Peacocke combines lullabies with cries of sorrow, under the same underlying darkness of oblivion. Plus, hear music from Philip Glass’s Third String Quartet, drawn from his music for the film Mishima, as arranged for sax quartet.
