#4913, Electroacoustic Music

Brass rises out of electronic texture in an early work by John Adams; vibraphones stretch and morph with 1-bit electronics from Tristan Perich; a violin becomes soundscape via distortion and delays in work by Missy Mazzoli. 

Listen to music by composer/artist Tristan Perich inspired by the aesthetic simplicity of math, physics and code. Hear Perich’s Open Symmetry for 3 vibraphones and 20-channel 1-bit electronics, performed by the dynamic French group, Ensemble 0. Then, hear an early work from composer John Adams involving synthesizer and brass. Also, listen to a work for solo violin, “Vespers for Violin (and electronics)” by composer Missy Mazzoli, which builds on material from her work, Vespers for a Dark Age to create a distortion and delay soundscape of pre-recorded accompaniment.

There’s music by London-based vocal group Shards who combines voices, synths and percussion, which John Schaefer likens to the “audio version of beams of light dissolving into a haze.” Plus, hear new music from the collaborative trio of Pakistani American singer/composer Arooj Aftab, pianist/composer Vijay Iyer, and multi-instrumentalist/producer Shahzad Ismaily, from their 2023 release, Love in Exile.
