Charles Chapin's career with Joseph Pulitzer's New York Evening World ended spectacularly when, in 1918, he shot his wife Nellie. He was sentenced to 20 to life in Sing-Sing. James McGrath Morris' recent biography of Chapin is called The Rose Man of Sing Sing: A True Tale of Life, Murder, and Redemption in the Age of Yellow Journalism.
