Jackson discusses what happened when torrential rainfall swelled the Seine and saturated the soil, and faulty engineering caused drowned streets, homes, businesses, and museums. His book Paris Under Water: How the City of Light Survived the Great Flood of 1910 tells the story of how Parisians came together to confront the crisis.
