1968, part 1, (plus new Wilco!)

Spinning on Air | May 18, 2010
1968, tumultuous in so many ways, was an extrordinary year for ambitious musical experimentation in the pop world. During the next few weeks of this 35th anniversary of that fecund year, Spinning On Air will include highlights from some of the period's most daring albums.
This show features Phil Ochs' "Pleasures of the Harbor," the album by the group called The United States of America, and Van Dyke Parks' "Song Cycle." But we're not mired in the past. The band Wilco has a new EP available at their website, and you'll hear selections from it at the start of this show. Plus, who's doing interesting work in the field of Hip Hop? One band is Blackalicious, and host David Garland introduces you to their clever and powerful music.
