Akron/Family Workshop

Spinning on Air | May 18, 2010
The band Akron/Family is adventurous, imaginative, and known for the vitality of their marathon concerts. The fact that they are also prolific is made clear by this show, first broadcast Oct. 15, 2006. Their album, "Meek Warrior," had just been released, but they gathered in the WNYC Studio not to play music from that album; instead they joined host David Garland to record the demos for their NEXT album! The songs had just been composed, were arranged by the band a couple weeks prior in a Pennsylvania garage, and they tried them out for the WNYC microphones, giving us the chance to hear the songs at an early stage in their evolution. That next album, "Love Is Simple," will be released next week (Sept. 10th).
