New Classical?

Spinning on Air | May 18, 2010
These days there's an outpouring of carefully constructed instrumental music made by musicians working outside the classical genre. It's as if genre labels are too tired to keep up with the music. But the music itself is vital and evolving even as the stylistic borders crumble to dust. Host David Garland presents new instrumental recordings by Jim O'Rourke, Tyondai Braxton, Olafur Arnalds, Lightning Bolt, And So I Watch You From Afar, Noveller, and others, as well as a couple song surprises, such as crooner Michael McDonald singing with Grizzly Bear.
